he DLS-400 combines years of monitoring experience with advanced wireless communications in one complete system. The system is designed for long- term monitoring and transmission of data from sensors supplying 4-20 mA, 0-2.5V signals, or SDI-12 communications. The sealed design significantly reduces site visits. The NEMA 4/IP65 housing has a hinged sealing cover for protection.

The data monitoring function allows multiple readings to be stored and the sample rate is adjustable from once every second to once every day. Additionally, an accumulated total is recorded and displayed. Data can be downloaded through a wide variety of wired and wireless communication options and then graphed or exported via a CSV file. Optimum Instruments is directly connected to a wide range of network providers to be able to provide service throughout North America. And because we are connected directly, we have two way communications with our Data Dolphin data loggers.

The Data Dolphin provides the accuracy of a laboratory instrument in the harsh conditions of the field environment. The ultra-high resolution 24 bit analog to digital section provides 8 single ended inputs or 4 differential bipolar inputs (or a combination of both) with resolution down to 90 nanovolts (.00000009 volts). This allows most sensors to be directly connected without any signal conditioning. It's wide range of input voltages allows for you to attach a wide range of different input types. There are an additional four inputs that can be user selected as pulse, status, event start/stop or analog inputs.

SDI-12 is now supported by the DD-400 opening the use of a large variety of sensors and sondes. This enables the DLS-400 package to upgrade your existing surface water or groundwater network to use telemetry for real time remote water level and water quality monitoring.

Data is stored in a non-volatile flash memory module that gives long term storage without the fear of losing your data because of dead batteries. Data is stored inside a database structure, which allows you to add or delete inputs "on the fly" without having to restart the data logger. Even the sample rate can be changed without restarting.

Designed for field use it’s operating temperature range goes from – 40°C to over 75°C and all inputs have static protection. It has been designed for and proven in Northern Alberta, monitoring all year round in harsh conditions. The DLS-400 is powered internally by a 12 volt lead acid rechargeable battery (upgradable to pure lead for extended performance) which is charged via our SMC-02 charge controller with solar panel. The Data Dolphin’s extremely low operating current gives the datalogger an expected battery life of approximately 3 years (5 min sample rate) on batteries alone when used with thermistor temperature sensors.

Data collection, programming and viewing collected data is a breeze with the free Data Dolphin Software. It allows you to view the current status, set up the logger, and generate graphs. You can also export your data to other programs for more detailed analysis and presentations. Support for ANSI 12.18, Modbus, and Internet protocols. Include telemetry and you have a remote monitoring station that harnesses the power of ViewDataNow for all of your data collection needs further enhancing your collection with user configurable E-Mail, SMS, web application notifications and automatic data synchronization even with your own database system. VDN can automatically generate .csv files and upload them via FTP, or e-mail directly to you. An API also exists to get your data in JSON format for a fully automated distributed system.
